5 HR Technology Trends to Watch

Advances in technology have impacted every field, including recruiting.  We’ve put together a list of seven technology trends we think will change the way recruiters operate, as well as some suggestions for how you can leverage these developments to improve your company’s HR functions, positively impact company culture, and recruit (and retain) top talent.

  1. Recruiting Chatbots
Artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to hold text-based conversations with individuals who land on your company’s recruiting page, presenting a cost-effective way to provide real-time answers to potential applicants.  Some tech companies are also working on developing chatbots that can help new employees get set up after being hired, so they are not roaming around looking for someone who can answer their questions or frantically flipping through the employee handbook.  Integrating an AI chatbot can help attract potential employees, ease the transition for new employees, and increase productivity.
  2. Mobile
Mobile app usage within HR has been on the radar for several years now, but few companies are taking full advantage of the wide range of HR apps available or optimizing their sites for mobile usage.  As we’ve discussed in the past, a large number of job applicants are viewing open positions on their mobile devices; therefore, recruiters need to make sure their job sites are mobile optimized.  Dozens of apps are available for HR departments looking to track employee engagement, provide recognition, encourage employee referrals, and provide training courses, among other functions.
  3. Talent Management Software
A plethora of software providers now offer solutions designed to assess company culture, track employee engagement levels, provide training, and solicit feedback, among a variety of other talent and culture management related services.  These solutions range in price and capability, from one-off solutions to integrated platforms, and typically employ some type of gamification to encourage employee participation.  Spend some time researching the best solution for your company’s needs and budget, and reap the rewards of improved employee engagement and ease of response to employee needs.
  4. Data Analytics
Data analytics is a hot field at the moment, and HR is not immune.  Many of the talent management software solutions mentioned above offer HR departments the ability to collect and analyze employee data to gain insight into workforce trends, common workplace issues, and performance levels.  This data can then be used to make predictions and identify potential solutions that will improve productivity and reduce conflict.
  5. Secure Cloud Solutions
Moving to a secure cloud storage system allows organizations to manage all of their HR related documents – payroll data, emergency contact forms, benefits forms, and OSHA compliance information, for example – in a format that is easy to access and maintain.  Physical filing systems are time-consuming to work with and take up valuable office space, and are not very secure from tampering or break-ins.  Transitioning to a cloud platform will save time, provide enhanced security controls, and make it easier for your HR department to keep track of all their documents.
